For this week's mix (and in honor of Gilles Petersen's set in SF; which I missed because of mommy-ness), I stumbled upon this podcast called the Sounds of Cuba. After investigating, I found out that there is an effort to celebrate Cuban art and culture through a group called Havana-Cultura. Gilles' connection is that he has created 2 albums with the group and also hosted a remix contest of one of the tracks on the album. Enjoy this mix featuring Celia Cruz, Danay Suarez, and more!

Mode.Radio Weekly Mix #8--Black Coffee--Appreciation Mix

DJ Black Coffee is a well-known House DJ from South Africa. He has made lots of appearances in the States in places like LA, The Bay Area, NYC, Detroit, and Miami. He got his first start in 2003 as part of the Red Bull Academy and in 2005 he released his first album. He has had 3 albums since and this mix was an appreciation to his worldwide fans who gave him 700,000 likes on Facebook. Enjoy this mix!

Hi Mode.Radio Fans!
I'm in LA this week for a conference related to my jobby-job :) So for this week's Weekly Mix, I thought that we should do a mix that in some way related to the city of Angels. Since I love DJ Shadow, I was very happy to find this mix. There's no tracklisting, but it's a freeform vinyl set with genres ranging from EDM to Rock to Breakbeat and more. Enjoy!

DJ Jamad of Atlanta has been a friend of mine for many years. I met him in the oddest place, my dentist office! I didn't realize that he was the soul DJ that I had been seeing at clubs like "Kaya" and "Ten27" until he gave me one of his mixes in the dentist chair, lol!

When I went home for the holidays, I picked up his mix "Naturally Red" and enjoyed it. So when I was looking for a weekly mix, I stumbled upon this one. Mode.Radio's Weekly Mix #5--January 3, 2014--Blu Mar Ten

Happy 2014!
Mode.Radio took a break from our weekly podcasts but now we're back with a great New Years mix from reknown drum 'n' bass crew Blu Mar Ten. Blu Mar Ten is a music production outfit based in London, and is made up of Leo Wyndham, Chris Marigold, and Michael Tognarelli. Their first track was released in 1996, but they became well-known for remixing Erykah Badu's "On and On." After that they worked with LTJ Bukem on his label Good Looking Records from 2000-2003 and have been on many labels since then. They started their own label called Blu Mar Ten Music, or BMTM and began producing other electronica artists.
