Mode.Radio's Weekly Mix #53--Seba--Drum 'n' Bass Arena Mix

One of my favorite websites is Drum 'n' Bass Arena out of the UK, If you have ever been a fan of d'n'b, this is one of the premiere websites to listen to mixes and newest productions. I used the website frequently when I was producing "Subterranean" in Atlanta.

I was feeling nostalgic this week.I was looking around for a mix this week and I found this exclusive mix that DJ Seba did for the website last month.

Seba isn't some random DJ. He's been around the d'n'b scene since 1995. I first heard of him through LTJ Bukem's label Good Looking records with his track with Lo-Tek called "Sonic Winds." A couple of years later, Seba started his own label Secret Operations in Sweden. Even though he was putting out some d'n'b tracks at that time, he was mainly mixing and producing house tracks. That was until 2003, when Secret Operations began increasing the amount of d'n'b tracks on their label.

This mix was done in celebration of 2 releases Seba did last December, "Jungle Music" and "Cloudless." You can read the interview and hear those tracks here. There's no tracklisting, but if you're a fan of 90's d'n'b or you want to know where dubstep sound generated from, this is the mix. Enjoy and download!

Holiday Daily Mix #2--The Martin Brothers--"Rainy Sunrise" Drum n Bass Mix

A couple of years ago, I was in a magazine shop in Oakland and bought a copy of Mixmag. If you know Mixmag, there's always a CD attached to it. This particular day in April 2013, the CD was Claude VonStroke mixing tracks from this Dirtybird label. The CD was called the "Dirtybird Players" and it was lovely, funky house goodness. So as I was coming up with the next daily mix, I stumbled upon two of the Dirtybird artists, Justin and Christian Martin, aka Dirtybird OGs or The Martin Brothers. It was a d'n'b mix and from a memorable label, so I decided to download it.

You won't be disappointed.

This set was done earlier this year at the DirtyBird Campout in SoCal and just released 6 days ago. They even did a Yule Log video on Vimeo with it playing in the background. There's no tracklisting, but it's enjoyable. Happy Holidays!

Weekly Mix #40--DJ Marky--Fabriclive Promo Mix--June 2015

This has been one crazy week. Personally, I went to the Bay Area, came back, and went to visit fam bam in Kansas City 3 days later. Nationally, there was a horrific murder in Charleston, SC and Same Sex marriage became law. Regionally (here in the southern US), the Confederate flag started to be taken down., starting in Alabama of all places.

So what does this have to do with the mix I'm featuring today. Nothing. BUT...

I have been listening to it hard core this week. It helped me zone out when I was angry and numb about Charleston and helped me celebrate that my friends and family can now marry.

This is just a good Drum 'n' Bass mix.

We haven't featured a mix by DJ Marky since 2011. This was featured on Fabric London's Soundcloud page as a promo for an appearance Marky did at Fabric Live on June 12. The Brazilian based Marky has been DJ for over 25 years and has his own radio show and podcast, amongst other things. Check out his profile here on Resident Advisor.

BTW, this is NOT a 3 hour set. He was doing a 3 hour set at the live event on June 12th.

Enjoy!

The Stash 41--DJ Marky--Live Mix--Atlanta Sept. 2003

Props to Atlanta and recent Mode.Radio DJ Sorted for turning us on to this live mix by Brazil's DJ Marky. This mix was done at the Crescent Room in Atlanta, GA in September, 2003. There are gaps in the mix because MC Stamina was involved in the show, but wasn't recorded on the mix. Hope you enjoy it!

Radio Ready--Sorted--Seasons Change Vol. 2

The first time (and the last time) we featured Atlanta DJ Sorted was in October 2009. So we thought it was a good time to bring him back.

From his Bio:
Jamie Andersen aka Sorted has been rocking Atlanta dancefloor's for half a decade. Heavily influenced at a young age by nights spent in the notorious London clubs fabric and The End. Sorted came back to the states eager to spread Europe's sounds to the masses.

Bursting on the Atlanta scene in 2005 Sorted quickly joined the http://www.404audio.com crew becoming one of the cities premier Drum and Bass DJ's. Cutting his teeth at the now infamous Transit club nights, Sorted learned the importance of building a vibe, while keeping dancefloor sensibility.

After building a name in Atlanta's underground, Sorted quickly found the need to branch into other genre's. You can hear a mix of House, Indie, and other genres in almost every mix he creates. For now enjoy, DJ Sorted's "Season's Change Vol. 2" recorded December 2010

The Stash 37--DJ Marky--Podcast 16, March 2009

One of the first drum 'n' bass DJ that I fell in love with was DJ Marky. My first CD of his that I bought was "The Brazilian Job" in 2001. Ever since then, whenever I see a DJ Marky set on the internet or in the stores, I have to buy it.

In March 2009, I download this set from DJ Marky's website, http://djmarky.uol.com.br/, and It hasn't left my iPod ever since. A very good d'n'b set, it's full of surprises and filled with DJ Marky speaking about tracks he's using.

A little bio: Regarded as a drum’n’bass innovator under the name Marky Mark and then just DJ Marky, Marco Antonio Silva was discovered by English DJ Bryan Gee, who saw Marky playing in a club in São Paulo in 1998. Amazed by Marky’s scratch skills, he invited the DJ to play in London. Marky got started in drum’n’bass in 1992, choosing a more hardcore edge, but the small audiences nearly caused him to give up. At the time, he was told that that kind of music was for only a few. In 1997, he went to London and met DJs Hype and Goldie. The meeting with Brian D was definitive for Marky’s conquering of England. In 1999, he was awarded "Best New DJ" by the British critics. The recording sessions of his album "Working the Mix" happened in his house, with two pick ups, one mixer and vinyl albums. When it was ready, he showed it to moguls at Paradoxx and got lucky.

Enjoy!

Debut Series 47--Miles Long--Front Street

About 3 months ago, mode.radio got a follower from a fan of DJ Sikora's, Miles Long of Kentucky. It took me a while to listen to it, but when I finally got to it, I was pleasantly surprised. This is really good Drum 'n' Bass/Dubstep collection of created about 3 months ago.

Starting out as an emcee and audio engineer in 2000, Miles met another young producer who introduced him to Daft Punk, and fell in love with Electronic Dance Music. He has recently started back to school and is attending Full Sail University for Music Production. You can listen to all his mixes at http://www.mixcloud.com/DJMilesLong/ and his original productions http://www.soundcloud.com/djmileslong .

Hailing from London, Shy FX is considered one of the pioneers of Drum 'n' Bass and Jungle. His track, "Shake Your Body" was a huge hit for him in 2002, ten years after he started out in the music scene. This mix was originally broadcasted on BBC's Radio 1 "Essential Mix" in December, 2005 and it's a really good jungle mix, with a bit of ragga and reggae thrown in at the beginning. FINAL Subterranean Sessions! Vol. 12--The Demo

We've said it a couple of times, but this REALLY is our last Subterranean Sessions for some time. For our last session (and one year anniversary BTW), I decided to feature one of the many demos received at Subterranean during my tenure. The DJ's name is Zeke Phillips and the recording is from a cassette given to me in 2001. Some dark, classic d'n'b on this one. Click on the link on the left and enjoy. Hopefully the Subterranean Sessions will come back again... :)
