Radio Ready--Ladymode--Soul of the City Mix 2

Hello all!
It's been a while since I posted a Radio Ready mix and the last one I posted was a mix I did when I auditions for an on-air position on WXNA 101.5FM radio in Nashville.

Well starting June 9, my radio show "Soul of the City" will FINALLY be on the air and on the internet. You can listen to it on TunedIn at WXNA or on their website wxnafm.org. It took a while because of antenna issues but we're ready to go now!

"Soul of the City" is a departure from Mode.Radio because it's more of a neo-soul than electronica. But not to worry, I will still be maintaining the electronic sounds on this blog.

So here are all the links to the socials for Mode.Radio and Soul of the City:

Mode.Radio's Weekly Mix #47--DJ Nyack--Fat Belly Bella Mix

So last week I featured Erykah Badu mixing and while looking for that, I found Brazilian-based, International DJ Nyack. I saw this mix, downloaded it, and for and hour and a half I was in pure joy. I love Erykah Badu and this set made my Saturday evening of cooking. :)

A little about DJ Nyack. He started DJing at 23 and got his first international gig in 2011 at Coachella. He has DJed in the states, Argentina, Brazil, the UK, Germany, and more. In his home of Brazil, he's well-known as a hip-hop DJ and his website has lots of mixes expressing his love for hip-hop and R&B. Check those out at http://djnyack.com and Enjoy this mix!

Weekly Mix: DJ Nyack: Fat Belly Bella Mix by Moderadio on Mixcloud

Mode.Radio's Weekly Mix #46--Erykah Badu--Feel Better, World!

Some of you may know that Ms. Erykah Badu is not only a world renown artist, but she's also a DJ :) Known by the alias of DJ Fat Belly Bella and Low Down Loretta Brown, Badu has been DJing out for many years. This mix was done 2 months ago after all the bad events happening to African-Americans here in the states. This mix is meant to empower and soothe the soul. As the Dallas Observer said "Badu dug deep for an 80-minute mix called "Feel Better, World!" that uses a selection of tracks by Donny Hathaway, Earth, Wind & Fire, Stevie Wonder and a host of others (including Badu herself) to paint some kind of image of hope. It starts dark and dissonant, clattering through Gary Bartz's avant jazz and James Brown's bleak "King Heroin" before making its way towards some kind of light at the end of the tunnel, where Hathaway suggests that "some day we'll all be free." Of course, Badu put it pretty succinctly herself when she posted the mix to Mixcloud over the weekend: "ALL OVER THE GLOBE...KEEP WALKING TALL BROTHERS AND SISTERS. SOMEDAY WE WILL ALL BE FREE. THE WORLD IS IN NEED OF HEALING.... I CAREFULLY AND LOVINGLY SELECTED HIGH FREQUENCY TONES FOR THE SOUL.... PLEASE LISTEN FROM TOP TO BOTTOM.

LOVE, ms. badu."

Enjoy and look out for her next mixtape soon. There's a track floating around the net of her covering Drake's "Hotline Bling" that's really hot.

Mode.Radio Weekly Mix #6--DJ Jamad--Purple Moon Mix

DJ Jamad of Atlanta has been a friend of mine for many years. I met him in the oddest place, my dentist office! I didn't realize that he was the soul DJ that I had been seeing at clubs like "Kaya" and "Ten27" until he gave me one of his mixes in the dentist chair, lol!

When I went home for the holidays, I picked up his mix "Naturally Red" and enjoyed it. So when I was looking for a weekly mix, I stumbled upon this one. It's been out for a year and it features some neo-soul classics and updated cuts. You can check out his other mixes on Soundcloud under DJJamad Plays. The. Ish, or on his website, www.djjamad.com. Enjoy!
