Happy Mother's Day
I'm relaxing, enjoying my day quite nicely, listening to upcoming mixes for Mode.Radio and getting ready for my show on WXNA (http://wxnafm.org). A lot of the mixes I'm listening to are nice, summer house mixes and this is one of them
I have been a fan of Rick Sierra ever since he moved to Atlanta from Florida in the 90's. He's opened for BT, De La Soul, Tommie Sunshine, and many many more artists.
Now living in Colorado, he's slowly getting back into DJing after brief hiatus. This was his latest mix that he did this weekend.
Enjoy the deep house goodness

Mode.Radio's Weekly Mix #58--jSmall--Sunday Morn Perk
Happy first day of spring!
So I just came back from my hometown of Atlanta, visiting fam and feeling a bit sad that I didn't visit any "framily" (friends that are family) As I was looking for something to listen to to take me back to Music City, TN, I stumbled upon this mix from ATL DJ/Producer jSmall on the Funk Jazz Kafe FB Page. I'll be honest, I haven't heard much from him, but I'm very interested in what else he has up his sleeves because this deep house mix is perfect for the first day of spring. It remains deep, while throwing in a little afro house, which was great!
Enjoy!

Radio Ready--Black Coffee--In the Lab, November 2014
I've been holding on to this mix for a long time...
Almost a year and a half to be exact....
This is one of my favorite all time mix and it's by South Africa's own Black Coffee.
I have featured Black Coffee 2 times before here on Mode after seeing him open for Marques Wyatt in Oakland. As you may know, Black Coffee has been DJing since 1994 and began to get worldwide recognition in 2004 from his mix for the Red Bull Music Academy. In September 2015, he won the DJ of the year at Ibiza.
This mix was done at a club that is in the offices of MixMag magazine and it's an amazing set. There's no tracklisting, but it's great to enjoy and download.

Mode.Radio Weekly Mix #52--Ron Pullman--Thunderous Grooves
After a 2 week break, Mode.Radio is back with our latest weekly mix!
DJ Ron Pullman is considered the Godfather of Southern House music. The Denver based DJ has his biggest audiences in many cities in the South including Atlanta, Birmingham, Charlotte and more. He has 30 years of experience DJing, opening for such acts as Larry Heard, Ron Trent, and Marques Wyatt.
We have had Ron on Mode.Radio many times before but it has been a couple of years. Recently, he's put out a couple of mixes and "Thunderous Grooves" is one of the best I have downloaded. Here's what he said about the mix:
I usually title my mixes based on "Life Experiences"... brief story how i titled this mix. As i was recording this mix it was thundering and lightning outside, (SMH, i know, crazy!) A blend of New and Classic House Tunes. Dedicated to my A T L House Family!!!
Enjoy and download!

Holiday Daily Mix #6--DJ Red--Late Night Sessions Vol. 24
Happy 2016 Mode.Radio Fam Bam!
I'm recovering....
Last night, I went out in Atlanta to Afrotopia to see DJ Kemit. Before I went, I got an alert from my old friend DJ Red (Wayne Alan Baugh) about an afterhours....
I had to go (after the loveliness of Kemit and Salah Ananse) and now I'm recovering.
But at least my body hurts from good dancing. Now you can relive my experience by listening to this new daily mix from DJ Red. This was done 6 days ago and it's (as usual) pure house goodness. Great for recovering....
BTW, this is our next to last Holiday Daily Mix. Look out for a really good one tomorrow!
Enjoy....oof.

Holiday Daily Mix #5--DJ Kemit--The Gift Pt. 3
Tonight is NYE and I'm going to my hometown of Atlanta to celebrate! Super excited to go to the Afrotopia event and see this guy DJ. His name is DJ Kemit.
We have featured Kemit once before on Mode.Radio in 2014 and lots of people enjoyed it. So I figured as a warm up to your NYE, a little deep house music for you.
Kemit's bio is varied. Originally from Milwaukee, he started in the entertainment industry while at Howard University. He started working with Atlanta's own Arrested Development, where he later became a DJ for their shows. He later helped produce their second album. He moved to Atlanta and began DJing around town. He's been a DJ for over 20 years.
In addition Kemit has maintain his production skills. His latest triumph was "4Evermore" by Anthony David, which became a number 1 song on the Adult Urban Charts and one of President Obama's favorite songs, causing them to invite Anthony David to a White House event.
Currently, Kemit has his debut album out "Everlasting" with tracks from great singers such as Frank McComb, Eric Roberson and more.
Enjoy this Daily mix (only 2 more to go!) and happy NYE!!

Mode.Radio's Weekly Mix #45--Stan Zeff--Live at Music Room Atlanta, March 2015
Happy Labor Day Weekend! I'm a little sad this weekend because I wasn't able to make to Atlanta's annual House in the Park event yesterday. I had plans, but as with most Labor Day weekends, friends come in town and such.
What's House in the Park? It's an annual event featuring the best house DJs in the South, nationally, and Internationally. It started in Atlanta in 2005, and has grown to massive heights in the past 10 years.
So to cure my sadness, for the weekly mixes, I'm going to feature the deep house music that was played yesterday at the park during the month of September. My first artist is Stan Zeff.
Stan Zeff was born in London and currently lives in Atlanta. He frequently DJs throughout the states and in England. He's a part of the Tambor Party crew, playing shows in Atlanta, NYC, Detroit, Miami, and more.
This mix was done at Music Room 327 in Atlanta in March. There;s no tracklisting but it's full of deep house goodness.
Enjoy!

Mode.Radio's Weekly Mix #36--DJ David Harness--On A Sunday Afternoon
I've been planning a trip to the Bay Area this June and wanted to listen to something that reminds me of my former "home." I got an email advertising Oakland's Eastlake Music Fest and one of the acts featured was this DJ. I remember seeing DJ David Harness at Mighty SF many times when I lived in the Bay and I've always enjoyed his sets. David has been DJing since 1994 with regular nights at Mighty, Club Universe, and more. He's also a producer, creating remixes of tracks from Mary J. Blige, Luther Vandross, Aretha Franklin, Simply Red, Alicia Keys, Floetry, Donnie McClurkin, India Arie, *NSYNC, and Donnell Jones, Ann Nesby, Anane, Barbara Tucker, Inaya Day, Shea Soul, Dawn Tallman, Heidi Vogel, Yoko Ono, Roland Clark as well as remixing for labels Defected, Kings Street, Vega Records, Foliage, Quantize Recordings, Making Moves, Tribe Records, Look At You, Yellorange/Tony Records, Chez, Slaag, Bargrooves. He is a partner in the Moulton Music label and divides his production time between his solo work and co-productions with Harlum Muziq (co-productions with Chris Lum). This one will definitely bring back memories of classic house music, since a lot of it is a tribute to Frankie Knuckles. It works especially well for Memorial Day. Enjoy this almost 4 hour mix!

Mode.Radio's Weekly Mix #34--DJ Spivey--The Ethan White Tribute Mix
Last month, fans and band members of Tortured Soul were shocked by the sudden death of Ethan White, Tortured Soul's keyboardist. You can read more about that here. So I was hoping to create a Tortured Soul/Ethan White dedication mix, but I actually stumbled upon this mix. This was done by Atlanta DJ Spivey and his thoughts on the mix definitely sums up what many Tortured Soul fans felt...
"When I first learned of Ethan White's passing a couple of weeks ago, I immediately pulled out some old Tortured Soul Records and begin to Play! Ethan wasn't "The Voice" of Tortured Soul but his Keyboard Playing and musical arraignments were totally instrumental in the bands Amazing Success. On this Tribute I featured TS's hits: "How's Your Life?", "Don't Hold Me Down" and "I Know What's On Your Mind." etc. But I also picked some tunes Ethan did Remixes and Reworks on as well. So If You love Tortured Soul, or just plain Love Good Music, Hold up a Glass and "Toast" The Man, Mr. Ethan White! (R.I.P) "
Enjoy and respect...

Mode.Radio's Weekly Mix #25--DJ Cullen Cole--Private Session
According to DJ Cullen Cole's bio, it all started in the early 1980’s with his parents dropping him off at his first roller rink where Cullen Cole got his first taste of disco, soul, and house. It's a great start to a great career from this Atlanta-based, house DJ. It wasn't long before he was Djing at the rink himself, as well as other local Atlanta clubs, where he was introduced to the original house sounds of Chicago and Detroit. Newly inspired by this fresh sound, he quickly found himself frequenting Atlanta hotspots like 688 Spring St., Velvet, Masquerade, The Warehouse and Sol Nightclub, where he bonded with fellow house music lover, and Chicago transplant Tommie Sunshine. The duo ran Atlanta record shop Satellite Records for many years, causing Cullen to expand his musical armory. This new role only further fueled his desire to embrace all aspects of the electronic music scene. Starting his first residency in 1997, Cullen has brought DJ's and groups such as Derrick Carter, Larry Heard, Charles Webster, DJ Spinna, Peven Everett, ?uest Love, Ron Trent, Jazzanova, Omar, Kerri Chandler, Rich Medina, Tortured Soul, and many more. An open-minded and diverse DJ, Cullen's music is constantly innovating, presenting the classic sounds of Disco, House, Funk and Soul to Atlanta’s dancefloors. Going back to his roots with the quarterly "Adult Skate" parties, Cullen Cole is one of the last original jocks to play a strictly all-vinyl format.

Radio Ready--Ron Pullman--Live Set, November 7, 2014
It has been so long since I've featured Ron Pullman on Mode.Radio. At first I thought it was since 2012, but looking back at my archives, I hadn't featured Ron since 2010! Check out his last set here. When I received this email about his latest mix, I listen to it and loved it. It was done at the Atlanta Eagle on November 7 of this year and it features remixes and tracks from Jennifer Hudson, Anita Baker, Al Green and more. Enjoy this mix!

Mode.Radio's Weekly Mixes #21--KevinO--Live and Direct
Aah, Mr. Kevin Owens, aka DJ KevinO...One of the hardest working DJs, now a papa, in the Southern US. A good friend of Mode.Radio, we have featured Kevin plenty of times, the latest being his mix he did last year for a Halloween party. I figured for the Thanksgiving holiday week, Mode.Radio fans may need something to shake the turkey/holiday away. This mix was literally done "live and direct" at an Atlanta event and features truly groove filled rhythms in this 2 hour set. Again, no tracklisting, but after you listen, you care. You can check out mixes from Kevin and his crew at www.deephouse.com. Enjoy!

Mode.Radio Weekly Mix #18--DJ Kemit--House in the Park 2014
One of my favorite events in my home town, Atlanta, is the annual "House in the Park" that happens on Labor Day weekend. Atlanta's best deep house DJs and DJs from all over the country and world come through to spin for this all day event that brings old heads, new heads, friends and family together in a park in downtown Atlanta.
One of the godfathers of Atlanta's house scene is DJ Kemit. According to his Mixcloud: "DJ Kemit is the creator of “4Evermore,” the No. 1 Adult Urban Contemporary song that put Anthony David on the Obamas’ radar. It put David on the map, too, with his first Top 20 R&B hit.

Mode.Radio's Weekly Mixes #16--Levente--Munich Sessions 7.0 from Ibiza
For this week's mix, I decided to feature something that the "burners" would like. If you don't know what I'm talking about, the annual Burning Man festival started this week and thousands are converging on Black Rock City in Nevada this week. When I first heard this mix, the only thing I could think of is how this mix would set things off right.
Levente is a Hungarian producer who has ties to San Francisco. His track "Tumbling" was featured on Renaissance's The Masters Series with Nick Warren in 2013. He has a regular mix show on Deep House Parade Radio called the "Munich Sessions." This is the 7th episode in the series, uploaded 10 days ago. You can check out more of his mixes and tracks on his Soundcloud page.
Enjoy!
