Mode.Radio's Weekly Mix #64--Dr. Fu Man Chu--Return of the Astrobump

It's been a while since we've had a weekly mix because I have truly enjoyed my summer off as a teacher :) This mix really goes along with my chill summer and ironically, it was done by a DJ who is also a teacher enjoying his summer!

I met Dr. Fumanchu in Atlanta in the mid 90's. One of the best chill, hip-hop DJ's in the scene, he handled his biz. Working at Rewind Records, he was always the first to grab downtempo tracks. He, like all of us, made a life change and became a teacher in Philly but never forgot his roots.

This mix features a lot of Stone's Throw including Quasimoto, Dilla, and more. Enjoy!

Mode.Radio's Weekly Mix #26--DJ Jazzy Jeff's Boiler Room Mix, April 2014

I think we all know DJ Jazzy Jeff from his hits with the Fresh Prince and his appearances on "The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air." But what you may not know is that Jazzy Jeff is an accomplished DJ, producer, and promoter of great music. A Philadelphia native, Jazzy Jeff started DJing in block parties, eventually linking up with Will Smith to create the world famous duo. After being a regular guest star in "The Fresh Prince," he developed acts such as Jill Scott, The Roots, and Talib Kweli to get them record deals.

This mix came up on my iPod when I was working out last week. Seriously. I forgotten that I had downloaded it with the intention of putting here on Mode.Radio. This is a mix that Jazzy Jeff did live at Boiler Room TV. All kinds of goodness is in this mix, starting with Pharell's "Happy" and going to mashups from Missy Elliot, Erykah Badu, Fela Kuti, Biggie Smalls, and tons of classic hip-hop tracks.

There's no tracklisting and this link is not downloadable, BUT you can get a free download from Mode.Radio by just emailing us at mode.radio@hotmail.com. Learn more about DJ Jazzy Jeff on his website: http://www.djjazzyjeff.com. Enjoy!
